It's a typical day. You have time to spare, your responsibilities are minimal, and your homework load isn't even all that bad.
And yet, you swipe away the Key Club Remind messages, incessant as they are, without even reading them, and you zip out of the weekly meeting without so much as considering, "Hey, I haven't volunteered yet. Maybe I'll try going to that one event since this is a service club, after all." I get it. Reading is a chore, caring is a hassle, and commitment is a pain. But as a Key Clubber, part of the experience is taking up the opportunities presented to you, the chances to show some leadership, grow some skills, and help others just because you know that that's what makes the world go 'round. Maybe you don't feel that wondrous energy now, but I promise: once you take the initiative to put your intentions towards a cause much greater than yourself, the world becomes a dazzling place in which spending an afternoon setting up festivities for children or cleaning out a homeless shelter is, like, the funnest thing ever. So, when you honestly don't have a good excuse to not volunteer or partake in club activities, here are a few tips to get you out of that slump: 1. Find an activity that interests you in some way! If you like sports, participate in an event that pertains to that. And if you're passionate about music, offer to help with an event that relates to that, or maybe find an opportunity that you can have the Officers promote to the club. If you partake in something that you can connect with, chances are you'll enjoy the activity a whole lot more than if you can't relate with it. Also, you'll likely be more inclined for a round two (or three, four, five...)! 2. Grab a buddy! Friends are key! I know what it's like to volunteer at an event all alone, surrounded by strangers, and that fear and loneliness are enough to drive anyone away. Do you and your friends a favor by bringing them along; then, all of you can experience the fun ;) 3. Ask others about their experiences! Not sure what the fuss is all about for volunteering and participating in projects and committees? Psh, then ask someone who has shown passion and joy for those activities! Hearing real accounts could give you a good sense of what you, too, could experience, and it also provides you with the opportunity to ask questions to drive away your doubts and curiosities. Plus, a good story is always worth listening to. Now, this is a rather short list of tips, and they're all pretty common sense. But, they're simple, timeless, and effective. So...you really don't have a good excuse not to use them. Your President, Tramy Nguyen

Hi everyone!
Goodness, where I do even start? I guess, I want to say thank you. Throughout my four years, Key Club is a huge aspect of my high school years and it guided me to things that I wouldn't have the guts to do myself. I learn how to wrap up a mean hot dog. I learn how to gift-wrap presents less than five minutes. I learned to show my confidence in an audience of two-thousand people. Needless to say, it will be treasured in my heart. Being your current Public Relations has been my honor to this club and I did my utmost best effort to showcase of what our Club is. Before, this club was a baby. Now, it became more mature and it's still growing. This club has accomplished many achievements: winning Best T-shirt in 2016, creating the Fund to Run, establishing our own website, and so much more. We have come a really long way. However, there's always more work to accomplish and I wish I had more time to complete them. Nevertheless, I have no doubt that the incoming officers will continue to succeed with their own achievements. Without this club, I wouldn't have able to meet a variety of people that contributes to Key Club by their personality and identity. Truly, this club is the best and I am so grateful for this club. As for the next Public Relations, Marissa, you're going to do great. You're already in charge of Snapchat so don't say "you can't do this" when you already doing the job. I'm proud of you for overcoming your hesitation and try Public Relations. Continue to work hard and showcases Key Club through your own way and work. I am very proud of you and everyone else. As my term is coming to a close, I will work hard to be your best Public Relations. The journey is not over. I hope Key Club will continue to serves you well by its opportunities and welcoming community. Everyone, it's not a question of can or can't. Sometimes, you just do. Otherwise, I am signing off and thank you Key Club for everything you do. :) PR - Minh |
